Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards: October 2, 2017

There are 6 categories you can apply for that reflect your current/future interest. You can submit applications in as many as you want. They will choose three winners per category for the Dallas region. If you choose to submit in more than one category, you can use MOST of the same short answer/essay responses. However, some would need to be tailored to the specific category.

The six categories include: Business, Community Service, Education, Media and Entertainment, Healthcare and Science, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

Eligibility:

  • 3.0 GPA
  • Hispanic Heritage
  • US Citizen, Permanent Resident, or DACA student

Requirements:

  • Need counselor contact information (name, email address, phone)
  • GPA Certification Form (Must be completed by counselor or other school official, then scanned and uploaded BY THE STUDENT into the application). Download here 2017_GPA_Verification_Form
  • Letter of Recommendation Must have your YA ID Number at the top. Should contain the following: Recommender’s relationship to student, how well the recommender knows the student, if the student has the ability/determination to complete his/her educational objectives, why you recommend the student, qualities that set the student apart from others.) You must upload the letter into the application.
  • Short Answer Responses (250 words maximum each)
    • What influenced your interest in the category you selected? What steps have you taken to prepare for this possible career track?
    • What extracurricular work and community service activities have you had which emphasize experience within your selected category?
    • Describe a time when you failed or succeeded as a leader; what were some values and characteristics that you demonstrated in your leadership capacity?
    • What inspires your dedication to community service? What impact has it had in your life?
    • What does being Hispanic mean to you, and how would you empower your generation of Latinos?
